Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
The main complaint doctors hear is I’m tired.
Today the most common reason why people visit the doctor is fatigue. And the most common reason why people are tired is poor sleep. Poor sleep leads to fatigue in the morning, muscle aches and headaches. Poor sleep means difficulty falling asleep, or difficulty staying asleep, difficulty returning to sleep or waking up early.
Sleep is not a luxury, it is a necessary component for good health. Sufficient hours of sleep are necessary for an active and efficient lifestyle.
The Characteristics of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
The disease is characterized by prolonged exhaustion that does not go away after rest and causes problems in daily functioning.
In addition to this, other symptoms are added to the fatigue such as: hormonal / mental imbalance, physical weakness, headaches, joint pain, depression, weight gain, etc. There are usually several symptoms together because the continuous fatigue causes the adrenal gland to function poorly. The adrenal gland is one of the body’s significant sources of energy and is also responsible for the functioning levels of the thyroid gland which is responsible for the levels of hormones in the body.
In recent years there has been a sharp increase in the number of people suffering from the syndrome (a higher percentage of women than men) and of course the awareness of the disease has also increased.
Why is it happening?
There are many theories for the outbreak of the disease such as prolonged mental stress, hypothyroidism, mono also known as the kissing disease, viral infections, etc. The statistics show that hormonal imbalance is one of the most common factors found to be associated with the disease and more specifically, it is evident that the vast majority of patients were found to have low cortisol hormone levels due to dysfunction of the adrenal gland.
The diagnosis of the disease by conventional doctors is still highly uncertain because it is not clearly known what causes the outbreak of the disease and in addition to that, the routine blood tests of the patients often come out normal.
A large number of people suffering from chronic fatigue will receive sleeping pills, which explains the fact that the number of prescriptions for sleeping pills. Anybody who has taken sleeping pills knows that the sleep the pills provide does not give the same refreshing, energetic feeling, with emotional optimism as a good night’s natural sleep. Unfortunately, these drugs can lead to dependence and many times to various side effects.
In recent years, we have received hundreds of patients who suffer from fatigue and exhaustion. We work to help them overcome this by performing treatment based on accurate hormone, immune and digestive testing, since they are significant causes of chronic fatigue syndrome.
The test includes saliva tests and stool tests. The saliva tests check the hormonal status during 4 different times of the day and night, a test diagnoses when the hormonal imbalance is and we learn how to restore the hormone levels to a normal state. It is important to test the hormonal status 4 times a day in order to know when during the day the hormones change.
