The relationship between thyroid hormones and other hormones
Estrogen: Estrogen suppresses thyroid function while progesterone helps the thyroid function normally. If a woman is estrogen dominant, meaning she has more estrogen than progesterone, she can reach a state of abnormal thyroid function. Improving the balance between estrogen and progesterone can help the thyroid function normally without thyroid medication.
The Adrenal Gland:
Let's say the thyroid gland is a foot on the gas pedal. As soon as you press the gas pedal and the car moves forward. The car will only move forward if there is enough fuel in the tank. The cortisol produced in the adrenal gland is the "fuel" in the tank. That is why it is very important to support the adrenal gland while treating the thyroid gland.
Another reason to treat the adrenal gland:
If you are already taking thyroid medication, and your thyroid blood tests look normal, but you feel weak and unstable. The reason is that the adrenal gland is not strong enough to support the thyroid gland. If you give the adrenal gland the nutrients it needs and its hormones – this will help the thyroid gland to function better.
Thyroid and Adrenal glands
Thyroid function is so dependent on the adrenal glands that treating the thyroid without the adrenals will not give long standing health.
Many times, thyroid patients are only given Thyroid Hormones and as a result, thyroid blood tests improve but the person may not be able to return to their normal function. They won’t be able to feel great or lose weight like before. Why?
There are two general reasons I found for the phenomenon that despite the treatment no results are achieved.
First reason patients- receive Thyroid Hormones which is only the T4 hormone. The liver has to convert the T4 hormone into the T3 hormone, which is the active form of the thyroid hormone. If the liver does not convert the T4 (Thyroid Hormones) to T3: there will be no improvement in the patient’s feeling.
Thyroid hormone T3 is what causes weight loss, good memory, healthy digestion and great hair. In that case, it would be useful to take T3 along with taking Thyroid Hormones. The problem is that many doctors do not usually give prescriptions for T3.
The second reason is the treatment of the thyroid gland alone, without the adrenal gland. An important point called in medicine ;a pearl of medical wisdom is ;putting your foot on the gas pedal (giving thyroid hormone) but having no gas in the take (adrenal function) will just cause the car to shake and not get you anywhere.
Adrenals should be checked, especially when there is a known thyroid problem. There’s an epidemic of people who walk around feeling tired because of thyroid and adrenal issues that haven’t been fully treated.
If you don't feel at your best while taking Thyroid Hormones, even if the lab says you are balanced, you must check the other hormones accurately and also include the hormones of the adrenal gland in the test.
We emphasize that a person can have hypothyroidism even with normal blood tests.
